Frequently asked questions
How does the online prescription skincare process work?
How does the online prescription skincare process work?
Our process is designed to be simple, convenient, and medically compliant.
- Complete your profile: You will fill out a secure digital intake form detailing your skin goals, medical history, and current skincare routine.
- Doctor Consultation: A tailored treatment plan requires a real-time consultation. One of our Australian-registered doctors will review your details and contact you for a brief phone or video consultation to discuss your skin and ensure the treatment is safe for you.
- Pharmacy Dispensing: If approved, your custom prescription is sent to our partner pharmacy to be compounded.
Do I need a referral to see a doctor at Prescription Skin?
No, you do not need a referral. Our doctors will conduct the necessary consultation to determine if prescription skincare is suitable for you.
Is this a subscription service?
Yes. Prescription skincare works best with consistency. We set up your treatment plan to automatically refill so you never run out.
However, you are in control—you can pause, delay, or cancel your treatment plan at any time through your account portal or by contacting us.
We also have an option for a one-off purchase of Prescription Skin if you do not wish to subscribe.
I have sensitive skin. Can I still use this?
Absolutely. Because our formulas are custom-compounded, our doctors can adjust the strength of active ingredients to suit your specific skin tolerance. We often start sensitive skin types on a lower concentration to build tolerance gradually.
How is prescription skincare different from what I buy in stores?
Over-the-counter (OTC) skincare products are limited in the concentration of active ingredients they can contain. Prescription skincare contains medical-grade active ingredients at therapeutic concentrations that are clinically proven to treat skin conditions at a cellular level. Because these ingredients are more potent, they require a doctor’s supervision.
What ingredients do you use?
We utilise evidence-based active ingredients known for their efficacy in treating ageing, acne, and pigmentation. While Australian regulations prevent us from advertising specific prescription drug names online, our formulations commonly include prescription retinoids (Vitamin A derivatives), niacinamide (Vitamin B3), and other medical-grade actives tailored to your skin’s needs.
Can I use my other skincare products with Prescription Skin?
In most cases you can continue to use your other skincare products. Your doctor will go through this in more detail with you. We generally recommend you use Prescription Skin for about a month before re-introducing your other skincare products. We highly recommend that you add a cleanser, toner and sunscreen to your Prescription Skin routine.
How long does a bottle last?
Your custom bottle is designed to last approximately 2–3 months when used as directed (typically one pump applied nightly).
Can I use this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Many prescription skincare ingredients (particularly retinoids) are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Please disclose if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive during your intake form so our doctors can advise you safely or prescribe pregnancy-safe alternatives.
What possible side effects should I know about?
All prescription ingredients carry a risk of side effects. Fortunately, the ingredients we use are generally well tolerated. We always use safe doses and start our patients on lower doses, which allows your skin to get used to the treatment. Check out our Ingredients pages for more information about possible side effects for each ingredient.
You will also receive a consumer medication information (CMI) sheet with your prescription. This will provide further details about the effects and possible side effects of each ingredient in your prescription.
How do I cancel or update my subscription?
You can manage your subscription intervals or cancel at any time via your customer portal. Alternatively, you can email our support team at info@prescriptionskin.com.au.
Please try to make changes at least 24 hours before your next scheduled processing date.
